Evaporative Cooling - Highly Effective and Most Efficient in Dryer ClimatesRooftop Evaporative Cooler


Rooftop Mounted Evaporative Coolers cool your whole home but require only around 10% of the electricity consumed by an equivalent whole home ducted air-conditioning system* or around 50% of the power* used by a 5 kW single room only split system air-conditioner. Evaporative Air Coolers use 100% fresh air and you can leave your windows and doors open for natural ventilation.

Not only do they use less electricity, they are also more affordable than a refrigerated air conditioner. Evaporative Coolers work because the simple process of water evaporating absorbs heat from the surrounding air. A Cooler draws hot dry air over pads soaked in water which then evaporates producing cooler humidified air. However, if the outside air is already heavy in moisture the temperature reduction is severely limited and the cooler is not that effective.

Reduce the need for active Cooling

There are of course simple actions you can take to reduce the need for cooling that costs you money

Wall Garden

  1. Ensure your home is well Insulated.
  2. External Shading on North and West facing Windows reduces the heat entering the home
  3. Internal Curtains and Blinds or Double Glazing further cuts the incoming heat
  4. Vertical Wall Gardens on North or West facing walls can provide an additional thermal barrier. Rooftop Gardens are even more effective at reducing the need for both heating and cooling.
  5. Trees and Shrubs can provide longer term shade. Deciduous trees can provide summer shade while letting the winter sun shine through.
  6. Sealing gaps against hot air drafts around windows, doors and obvious openings. This also helps save on Winter heating costs.
